Today is the first day of Inktober! Woo! And per usual, I have decided to do something outside of my comfort zone and push myself artistically.
So last week I heard of a comic challenge called, the 24-hour comic… basically, you create a 24 page comic in 24-hours. The official day is Oct. 7, this year, but you can do it whenever you have 24-hours to devote to it. I thought that since Inktober was coming up, that I’d do it on Sep. 30. Since this is all new to me, I thought I’d do quick drawings for the 24-hours and then possibly spend Inktober cleaning up the pages. It’s an idea, not sure if it’s a good idea, but it’s the idea I had.
Well… I started getting a story idea yesterday around 10:30am, I took some quick notes and then started drawing… I wasn’t able to devote all my time entirely to the comic (and I don’t think that will ever be something I can do), because I have two pups, one is currently taking Chemo meds (Penny had her 6th dose yesterday), and my husband also got two booster shots on Friday… so those are things occupying my time and mind… but that’s fine, that’s my life and I knew that going in.
Around 11:30 pm my brain was mush and I was ready to call it an evening… I was able to complete 7.5 pages. Which I think is really good, considering I tend to noodle and muck around in the weeds with my drawings… so this is helping me just get my idea down already! haha
Not to be deterred, I started up again this morning around 11:15am, today I needed more breaks, and I wanted to make sure I was always putting Penny’s needs first today. So around 4pm, I had completed another 3.5 pages… giving me a total of 11 pages. I spent entirely too long on one page, and I see how I get lost in the weeds easily. But it’s all about having fun and learning.
I’m almost halfway there! I fully intend to finish the 24 pages… so I might work on more tonight, and definitely more tomorrow.
I’m also keeping the story to myself, I’m not even showing my husband yet. He never gets the experience of having the first read, he always hears my ideas long before he sees the drawings. So I’m both excited and nervous to show him and you all the final story, seeing as how I had no sounding board this time.
Until next time
