Hey guys, apparently Mama Owl is leaving the nest on occasion now. This time the owlets were not in the shadow but right in the middle of the cave in full view. Perhaps she’s teaching them independence while also showing them how to take off and land? I don’t know… but I suspect that any day now they will leave the cave.
Good News, Bad News…
Bad news, I arrived to the photoshoot unprepared. I somehow left my memory card in my laptop and I forgot to charge my second battery. Ugh, rookie mistake, I know.
Good news, I arrived early and had an extra memory card in my kit. Also, I was able to capture Mama Owl leaving the nest AGAIN on video. Woohoo!
Unfortunately, I ran out of battery before she returned… so that was the end of the photoshoot. I ran home to see if I could charge my battery before she returned… but quickly found out (from my camera manual) that the battery takes 3 hours 40 min to recharge from full discharge. Soooo I didn’t go back to the site.
I glanced over this morning on Duke’s walk and I think I saw a shadow in the cave, so hopefully all is well. I have since charged BOTH my batteries and have a memory card in my camera, so I’m all set for today’s photoshoot.
So let’s get to the photos and video…
I took a few stills before the Mama Owl took off.
She hung out with the owlets for awhile, and then she stepped up to the plate and luckily I had the idea to hit the record button and I was able to get the take-off on video.
EDIT:(25-04-22) I took down the video to save space.
Here are a few of my favorite scenes from the video…

Until next time…
