I seem to be perpetually a week behind on my footage… oh correct that, somehow I’m two weeks behind… heh, sorry guys. I needed a few days for self-care, so I took some time off. But I’m feeling a bit better now…
Ok, let’s get to today’s video, which was taken on March 26, 2024, the Owlets are about 5 weeks old in this video…
I set up my camera around 6pm when the light is really nice in the cave… but as the days wore on, the Owls would sleep up until the shadows crept in… which makes sense, of course, given that they are nocturnal and the light probably hurts their eyes. I watched Mama Owl fly away and was feeling like I was going to have to wait for the light to fade… but my husband suggested we walk Duke and I take photos elsewhere until the light was more friendly to the Owls.
It was a great idea… I captured these two photos…

When I got back to the Owls, about a half hour later. I chose a slightly different vantage point, which kinda looks like stalker-cam, haha. Then the Owls started to do stuff. Mama Owl returned, fed the Owlets, then left again… then the Owlets started to climb the walls… yes, you read that right…. the Owlets left the cave and started exploring and climbing up the hill… for about 11 minutes before starting to return to the cave. I have condensed the photoshoot down to a 5 minute video… enjoy…
EDIT:(25-04-22) I took down the video to save space.
Spoiler Alert:
I have about 6 days of video footage I still need to go thru. I lost the Owls for a short time, due to inclement weather and self-care days. Then I found them again last night, they have left the cave and are hanging out in the nearby shrubbery… they are about 7 weeks old now.
I’d better get to the next set of videos, before I get more footage tonight.
Until next time…
