Macro Fun…

With all the Owl photos, I’ve been missing macro and bursts of color… so a few days ago I decided to take my 65mm Macro 1-5x lens out for a little spin. It’s been years since I’ve played with this lens and forgot many things… like how heavy it is, and how tiny the depth of field. I also kinda forgot how to smartly take photos for focus stacking… oh, and did I mention that the lens is manual focus, which is basically me moving towards and away from the subject. No pressure…. oh yeah and I decided to go out without my tripod and it was a windy day… I guess I like a challenge, ahahaha!

I started to get back into the groove of this lens but didn’t want to take too many photos to process, because I knew I’d still have some work to do once I got these home. Lessons learned… I wish I had been a little more scientific with taking photos along the subject for focus stacking… but with the wind and lack of a tripod it was kind of just me doing bursts while moving my self or the lens dial in hopes that I’d get the whole thing photographed in stages. None of the focus stacked attempts worked out very well. Perhaps next time, it won’t be windy, and I’ll take my lighter tripod with me. Also I’ll try to be more methodical when taking the photos.

But let’s look at what I did get… because I did get some interesting photos.

I have a special fondness for Dandelions… but I was surprised to see the pollen and the spirals…

This is an interesting plant, I wish I knew how to search for it… it has 5 leaves, but it only makes a half circle… and it has some really fuzzy parts… so cute…

I had fun, and that’s the most important part. Hopefully I can find some time to go out and try again soon.

Until next time…
