Owl Watch: Owlets Hanging Out…

Hey guys! I’m slowly catching up… Today’s video is from April 1, 2024, the owlets are 6 weeks old here. The cave was empty, but luckily the owlets were hiding where I had seen them last photoshoot, 3 days prior…

I started showing up later in the evening so that I wasn’t watching them sleep for an hour, so I have an hour’s worth of footage that I condensed down to a 3 minute video…

EDIT:(25-04-22) I took down the video to save space.

Here are a couple of cute frame captures…

I’ve been curious for some time if the two owls are the same age… after learning that Eagles don’t lay their eggs on the same day, I wondered if that was also true for Owls. According to this site, “… the Great Horned Owl and the Barred Owl, about 2 to 3 eggs are laid 2 to 4 days apart.” That would make sense… one of the owlets does seem to be younger and not as developed as the other.

I also learned from this site, “Great horned owls are monogamous and can live for over 30 years.”

This is a great article on baby Great Horned Owls.

I have four more days of video footage to go thru… so I should get on that.

Until next time…
