Hey guys! Last weekend I attended a live discord session where we all drew the human figure (gesture drawing) while looking at a timed reference. It’s not really a class, per se, we are all creatives, and there is a host who is knowledgeable and will answer questions and help you out… but it’s not a lecture, I guess would be more accurate. Anyway, it’s a way to get together with other creatives and do something that you know you should do but probably wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t live.
Anyway… I attended again this weekend, there were two sessions on Saturday and I felt I might need to poke my head into a gesture drawing class… so in-between the sessions I watched the beginning of a gesture drawing class… but to be honest I was kinda bored… and the ‘homework’ was to draw the same stagnant pose 10 times (with reference and then testing yourself – conscious learning style)… but like I said I was bored.
So after the second live discord session I went looking for a different online course to get some info from and I’m enjoying that one much more… it starts with having you “name the pose” and then you can exaggerate the pose rather than trying to get it exact… (which, apparently, is life drawing, not gesture drawing)… anyway… I’m all about trying to convey feeling in my drawings so this class spoke to me more than the other one did.

I have a subscription to a couple of creative spaces where art classes are offered.
Design Cuts: Creative Club(edit: this service is no longer available)
Lately I’ve been really throwing myself into learning and practicing. The Design Cuts: Creative Club Forum recently created a thread where we could ‘learn together’ for the prerecorded classes… so I signed up for one of the classes, Daily Illustration Practice. If you’ve been reading my blog for long, you know I like cute… so I’ve been really enjoying this class…

Whew… that was a full Friday – Sunday! But I’m still stoked to learn more, so off I go!
Oh, but before I do….
Happy Gotcha Day DUKE!!!
