Quokka, Flowers, & Mandala…

This has been an interesting week art-wise. I seem to have gotten sidetracked away from finishing the squirrel animation, and instead I played around with gesture drawing a Quokka, then I signed up for a week-long workshop in early June. Then I realized that by paying for the workshop ‘vault’, I actually had access to most of the classes immediately (some classes will be live that week). So I’ve been watching a video and then practicing on my own. So here’s what I have this week…

Quokka

Like I mentioned above, I was just in the mood to draw an animal one morning, so I chose a couple of reference photos of a quokka. Then I did 30 second, 1 minute, and 5 minute gesture drawings of the references…

.

I had plans to then try to make a cartoony version of the quokka, but I ran out of time that day.

Mixed Media Flowers

Since I had full access to most of the upcoming classes for Workshop Week… I chose one of the digital classes. This mixed media flower class, with Teela Cunningham, was fun and came with some freebie Procreate brushes.

.

First I watched the video, then worked on it on my own… at some point I veered off into doing it more my style and method…

.

Then I took one of my own photos and tried to remember the techniques…

.

This was fun and meditative, I’ve taken a few photos of other flowers I’m hoping to paint in the future.

Mandala

This mandala class, with Farah Alhamawi, was fun. It was a nice blast from the past for me doing zentangle type patterns. Even though the class was traditional watercolor, I decided to do it in Procreate.

.

I quickly veered off-script and made it my own…

.

That’s all I have this week.

Until next time…
