Hey All!
The day got away from me… it was laundry/chores day and I couldn’t quite get to doing all the drawing/painting/inking I wanted to do.
So in case you missed it, I’m working on Bloomtober and trying to add expressions… today I’m working on Buttercup and happy… I did some preliminary drawings yesterday…

.
Today, I started a few drawings, but they just didn’t feel right… they seemed more like scary clown, rather than happy flower…

.
So I went and made food, and took a break from the drawings. When I came back I tried a few things and I think I like these better…

.
Now I need to decide on colors and my order of operations. On the one hand, painting first allows me to do the inking in a more light handed way, I can skip areas where there is a highlight, and make it not seem ‘outlined’ in ink. But the con of doing watercolor first, is that you cannot erase the pencil once you watercolor.
If I ink it first, I can erase the pencil… but I need to be careful not to just ink every pencil area and think about the highlights and line weight. I’ll probably do both but on different ones, like last time, in an effort to practice and see what works best for me.
I thought it would be nice to see my references, so I made you a little collage…

.
Oh and I also used an physical flower to try to determine how to draw petals in different orientations…

24-hr Comics Day
Tomorrow is 24-hr comics day… I was considering playing around with an idea I had a looooong time ago… sick tree. Rather than doing 24 pages, or even 24 panels… I thought I would just see how many panels tell the story. We’ll see what I can do.
The idea for sick tree was this: “I thought it would be cute to have the woodland animals bring the sick tree all the things you’d bring a sick friend, like tissues, soup, a blanket, flowers, a card, etc.”
And I had some reference and preliminary drawings…

.
Well, I’d better get back to it…
See you tomorrow?
Until next time…
