An Experiment and Sketchbook Bootcamp Prompts #3 & 4…

Hey All!

I had planned to only take weekends off. I don’t know about you, but the time change seems to get harder to acclimate to every year. And this was the easy one! Sheesh. My body just wasn’t having it yesterday, so instead of making myself do stuff on my dailies list, I did what I could, and then read until bedtime.

But I do have stuff to show you!

I finally finished the Sketchbook Bootcamp Prompt #3… we had to use gouache, which I’m not very skilled with… but after I stopped complaining loudly and started trying to make it work, I hated it less. 😛

.

I also took some time to test out some Dr. Ph Martin’s white out products. I had been using Bleed Proof White, but it reactivates with water and was like using water-based gouache. So I bought a Bombay Ink, and a Liquid Acrylic. I had mixed results, to say the least. The two new ones were ok on the three warm color inks I tried, but not so much on the cool color inks. And I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ll have to test each ink in turn before putting them on a project. But the interesting part was that I found out two other things… the black ink fell off the Bleed Proof White! What?!? So weird. Also, if I put the white ink or liquid acrylic down first, then the colored ink doesn’t cover it up completely. More experimentation needed, but that will come with various projects and weird ideas down the road, I suspect. Anyway, here’s what I have so far (click to enlarge)…

And last but not least… a current WIP… today’s Sketchbook Bootcamp Prompt #4. After I sketched it out and inked it, I took a photo and then brought it up in Procreate to play with what colors I wanted to use… my first idea was blues and orange, then I tried a slightly different version (click to enlarge)…

.

I liked the blue/orange one best… so I set out to do that with my liquid inks…

.

I still need to add some highlights to the water and I’m thinking about adding a bit of a pink wash to the skin but haven’t decided yet, because it’s fun to use a limited palette.

I have been doing so well with the dailies experiment, that I’m gonna try it again this month. It’s already so full!

.

See you tomorrow?

Until next time…
