My apologies for being away so long. I needed some down time, some off-line time. Being an introvert, even being “on” online drains me. I needed some away from the internet time to recharge.
Since I took nearly a week off, I missed week 1 of the One Four Challenge. So I thought I’d do weeks 1 & 2 together.
I was flipping through the book, The Artist’s Guide to GIMP and came across another way to make photos look like drawings. I really don’t know what my fascination with this is, but it’s where my creativity is taking me right now, so I’m going with it.
As I mentioned last month in the April Review, I tend to have a couple of ideas in mind and then try to find a photo to play around with. This month I did something slightly different. I didn’t want another Hot Air Balloon Month, so I continued to play with my image until I had 10 versions of it. They are similar and different enough that I think I can reveal them as four images for the month.
I was really moved by the little baby hummingbird that I found on the sidewalk and held in my hands. So I started playing around with that image and now I have 10 more versions of it.
For week 1, I thought I’d reveal the image that was the base for the further versions…
For week 2, I thought I’d reveal the image that spawned other images because it was a mistake that went well…
I’ll write and publish the tutorial for these two images tomorrow Tuesday. Until then, kind thoughts and comments are welcome.

It is nice to take a break every time you feel like you need it. I like to convert images into drawings/painting, too. That happened when I accidentally stumbled upon FotoSketcher. I think your bird looks lovely in both versions and I love the rescue story.

Poor little critter. Hope it survives and grows. We can just see a hint of the dazzling colours humming birds are known for.
Thanks, Chris! I took the hummingbird to a nearby bird sanctuary/vet for a hummingbird rescue to come and collect the little bird. It (she?) had most of its feathers and tried to flutter several times so I don’t think it was injured. I was told by several people at the vet (including some customers) that the hummingbird rescue lady had great skills at caring for hummingbirds. I felt like I was leaving it in good hands.
I think playing with the hummingbird picture is a great choice. It’s an interesting photo, has lots of opportunities, and it’s just fun to see.
