More Experimenting with Watercolor…

Hey All!

Apologies, I completely forgot to blog yesterday… I had a migraine and thoughts didn’t stick in my brain for very long. I remembered that I hadn’t blogged as I was falling asleep, I figured that just about summed up my day; thinking something… completely forgetting about it… then remembering it hours and hours later.

Anywho… I have been a bit more all over the place this week. A bit of experimenting and continuing something I started 6 months ago. Let’s get to it…

Cityscape Background Scene

I started this class at the end of December and for some reason started working on something else for the last 6 months. I’m trying to get back to watching and applying all the classes I’m signed up for. As much as it would be amusing to get the classes thru osmosis just by collecting them, you do have to actually watch them and then apply them to learn the material. Heh.

So I made a little gif of where I last stopped and what I’ve done this week…

Lanky Lou

I wanted to keep working on the Whimsical Watercolor books, so I rolled some dice and got the Wacky Whiskers book and this cutie. I decided to try out some experimenting. I did the first pass of the watercolor with watercolor pencils, then I added a bit more of watercolor to get the shading. Then I played around with some watercolor brush pens, and fell into the same problem I had last week of not really having a handle on how to make the cat look scruffy but not horrible and immediately hating it and trying to ‘fix’ it by ‘removing the watercolor with water’… which led to a giant mess which I tried to fix by adding some to the background but I still felt like I had ‘ruined’ it… so I slept on it and came up with an idea to try to the background to make it look purposeful… in the end I think it worked out ok. I think perhaps I need to practice this ‘scruffy’ technique on Procreate where I can easily undo until I have a handle on how it works and then get some muscle memory for it, instead of my current method of, “oh no”, “oh crap”, “well shit, I’ve ruined it”… I know that I just need to practice to make progress… and digitally feels less like ruining things with that convenient undo button…

Stressy Jesse

Again, I rolled some dice, but this time I got the Barnyard Besties book and this stressed out duck. For this one, I am continuing to experiment. I didn’t quite have the colors suggested so I had to mix some colors… unfortunately the only close colors to mix were in a paint pallet that I’ve long suspected that I just don’t like working with… I’ve confirmed that I don’t like that set of paint and have ordered several of the sets that Karen suggests in her Whimsical Watercolor book series. They should be here soon and then I’ll finish working on this one.

.

That’s all I have for this week. See you next time…

Until next time…
